Montis setup

Start using Montis in a few simple steps.

Connect your Intervals.icu account, choose the interface that suits how you work, and start turning your training data into useful coaching decisions.

Montis uses your Intervals.icu account as the shared athlete identity. The Montis App, ChatGPT and Claude use different connection flows but resolve to the same athlete data where required.

Optional AI access

Choose how Gemini AI usage is provided

The athlete dashboard and standard Montis tools do not require a Gemini API key. An AI access method is only required for Gemini-powered coaching and report interpretation.

Montis Subscription

A Montis subscription includes managed Gemini AI usage together with subscriber features.

  • Managed Gemini allowance
  • Lower-latency API access
  • Coached-athlete tools
  • Subscriber support

Subscribers do not need to maintain a personal Gemini key while using their included Montis allowance.

Open the Montis.icu Coach in ChatGPT, sign in to Montis and authorise your Intervals.icu athlete account.

Open in ChatGPT ↗
01

Open Montis.icu Coach

For the first connection, using ChatGPT in a web browser is the simplest route.

Open Montis and ask:

run a weekly report

ChatGPT will show a Montis sign-in prompt when the first Montis action is called.

Now put your training data to work.

Start with a report, then use Montis to question the findings, understand what is changing and decide what should happen next.

Troubleshooting

Most users should not need this section. Use these checks if your connection does not complete or Montis cannot access your athlete data.

ChatGPT — which model should I use?

A ChatGPT subscription using a Thinking model is recommended for the most reliable Montis experience.

Montis can also be used with other available ChatGPT models, but action-heavy workflows depend on ChatGPT successfully invoking the Montis tool.

The model controls the ChatGPT interaction. The underlying calculations returned by Montis remain governed by the Montis engine when the tool call succeeds.

ChatGPT — Montis does not connect or returns an upstream error
  1. Start a completely new Montis ChatGPT conversation.
  2. Run check connection.
  3. Then run run weekly report.
  4. If it still fails, refresh the ChatGPT browser tab and try a fresh conversation.
  5. Try ChatGPT in a normal browser if you were using a mobile or desktop app.
  6. Try an incognito/private browser window.
  7. Temporarily disable VPN, proxy, Private Relay, secure DNS or web filtering if applicable.
  8. Try another network such as mobile data or a hotspot.

You can also check Montis service status .

Claude — the Montis MCP tools are missing or stale
  1. Open Claude Settings → Connections.
  2. Find the Montis connector.
  3. Refresh the tool list.
  4. If necessary, disconnect and reconnect Montis to trigger a fresh OAuth exchange.
  5. Start a new Claude conversation. Tool schemas are normally resolved at conversation start.
Athlete profile missing or account not connected

This normally means that the Intervals.icu OAuth connection was not completed or needs to be renewed.

  1. Restart the connection flow from your chosen interface.
  2. Select the Montis sign-in/connect option.
  3. Approve the Intervals.icu authorisation request.
  4. Run check connection where available.
  5. Run your report again.
STRAVA activities are not available via the API

If activities exist only through Strava, Intervals.icu may not expose the training metrics Montis requires through its API.

Connect a direct activity source such as:

  • Garmin
  • Wahoo
  • Zwift
  • TrainerRoad
  • Direct FIT file uploads

See the Intervals.icu explanation for more information.

What should I send if I still need support?
  • The interface being used: Montis App, ChatGPT or Claude.
  • The exact request that failed.
  • The visible error message.
  • The approximate date and time.
  • Whether a new conversation changed the result.
  • Whether another browser or network worked.

Better data, better context

Check your training data.

Montis can work with incomplete datasets, but the available evidence determines how much useful training context can be resolved.

Recommended data

Montis works best when your Intervals.icu account contains:

  • Activities with time, distance and training load
  • A direct recording device or training platform
  • Heart rate and/or power where available
  • Optional wellness data for recovery analysis

Run a data quality check

If a report looks empty, incomplete or incorrect, ask Montis:

run data quality report

The check reviews athlete connection, activity availability, training load, heart rate, power and wellness coverage.
