PWA App Installation & Mobile Push Guide
Installing Montis as a Progressive Web App (PWA) delivers a native app experience on mobile and desktop—offering full-screen display, fast startup, and push notification support.
Who gets alerts
Montis sends a push alert when Intervals.icu tells it about one of two things:
| Alert | When it is sent |
|---|---|
| New activity | A new workout is uploaded to Intervals.icu. Tap it for your coaching update. |
| New wellness data | Your wellness data in Intervals.icu changes. Tap it to review your readiness. |
There are no other alerts: no reminders, no weekly report alerts and no coach messages.
- Alerts reach Supporters and Subscribers only. Montis matches you by your Intervals.icu account email.
- Anyone can switch alerts on and send a test alert, but on a Free account no real alerts arrive.
Switch alerts on
Alerts are off on each device until you switch them on there. Do this on every phone or computer you want alerts on.
- Install Montis on the device first (see How to Add Montis PWA App below). On iPhone and iPad this is required.
- Open the bell menu at the top of the app and switch on PWA Push Alerts. You can also use PWA Mobile Push Alerts in the Gemini AI Settings window.
- Allow notifications when your browser asks.
- Press Send Test Alert (in Gemini AI Settings: Test Alert) to check that it works.
If your browser blocks notifications, press Setup & Unblock Guide or follow the steps further down this page.
If your browser already allows notifications for Montis, the app may switch the device on for you.
One alert per update
After an alert, Montis does not send another alert of the same kind until the update has been collected. This stops a stream of alerts while you are out training.
- The update is collected when you open Montis or switch back to it.
- It is also collected when Check Pending Training Updates runs in Tools, or when an AI assistant runs it through the Montis connector in ChatGPT or Claude.
- Activity and wellness count separately. A waiting wellness update does not hold back an activity alert.
Missed an alert?
You do not need push alerts to get your updates. Each time you open Montis, the app checks for new activities and wellness data. Devices without alerts also check each time you switch back to the app.
When something new is waiting, you see:
- a NEW ACTIVITY ALERT or NEW WELLNESS DATA ALERT dialog with a short AI evaluation;
- an item in the bell menu;
- a card in the AI Coach chat. AI Coach is given the update, so you can ask about it straight away;
- your Weekly report, Calendar or Wellness view refreshed with the new data.
From the dialog you can press Analyse Activity in SIL, Show Full Wellness, View Data & AI Insight in Tools or Dismiss. Each choice saves the update to Tools → History under Check Pending Training Updates, so you can come back to it later. History only keeps checks that found something new.
If Montis is open when an alert arrives, it shows a short message in the app instead.
AI key and usage
The numbers come from Intervals.icu and the Montis engine. The short AI evaluation uses Gemini: the shared Montis AI key for Subscribers, up to the monthly allowance, or your own Gemini key. Without a key you still get the update, with a note that the AI evaluation needs an API key. See Montis Gemini App Setup.
