Units (Metric and Imperial)

2 min read·Applies to: Montis AppChatGPT & Claude · All Montis reportsOpen in the Montis App

Montis shows distance, speed, pace, elevation, weight and temperature in the units you chose in Intervals.icu. Montis has no units setting of its own.

Where your units come from

Montis follows these Intervals.icu settings:

What it changes Metric Imperial
Distance, elevation, speed and pace km, m, km/h, min/km miles, feet, mph, min/mile
Weight kg lb
Temperature °C °F

To change your units, change them in your Intervals.icu settings, then refresh your report in Montis.

To see which units Montis is using, open Athlete Details. The Units box shows them, for example mi · ft · lb · °F.

What uses your units

  • App screens: dashboards, Session Intensity Lab, the calendar, Race Readiness, maps, charts, Athlete Details and the workout builders.
  • AI Coach: answers in the units of the person reading. So do the AI summaries in Race Readiness, Compare and Performance Progression.
  • Workouts saved to Intervals.icu: the Workout Builder and AI Builder write paces and distances in the athlete's units, in the syntax Intervals.icu reads correctly. For example - 10m 8:00/mi pace or - 1mi 7:00/mi pace.
    • % Pace, pace zones, heart rate and power targets don't change.
    • Swims keep their pool units: mtr for metres and y for yards. In Intervals.icu, m always means minutes.
  • Weekly coaching email: uses the athlete's own units.
  • Montis Wellness: shows and accepts your weight in lb if you chose lb. It is saved in kg.

Coaches

  • Your screens and the AI Coach use your own units, also when you work as an athlete.
  • Workouts you save to an athlete's calendar, and the weekly email you send them, use the athlete's units.
  • Until Montis has loaded one of your own reports, it shows the athlete's units.

What stays the same

  • Power (W), W/kg, heart rate (bpm), training load and percentages are never converted.
  • Montis stores and calculates everything in metric, as Intervals.icu does. Only the display changes, so your scores, thresholds and decisions are the same in any units.

In ChatGPT and Claude

Montis reports include your Intervals.icu units. ChatGPT and Claude are told to show figures in those units and never to change the numbers themselves.
